Industrial Garden: Fields of Light

in Collaboration with The Estate of Anna Andreeva

Anna Andreeva (1917-2008) was a leading artist at the prestigious Red Rose Silk Factory through the height of the Soviet Era.

Her designs, often resisted by Soviet authorities, were worn on diplomatic occasions and played an important role in the visual and material culture of the Soviet Union.

Her works are currently held in public and private collections worldwide, most notably that of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).

Chrysanthemums

Anna Andreeva found refuge in flowers, particularly the chrysanthemum, as an ideological shield and vessel for lyricism. The chrysanthemum’s bold, planetary bloom united the natural world with the cosmic realm and the modern, cybernetic world.

Several of Andreeva’s chrysanthemums survive as ink-and-gouache drawings alongside rare Soviet-era silk panels. The Allison Quaid Chrysanthemums take inspiration from these, tracing the artist’s story from paper to silk to precious gems.

Each Allison Quaid Chrysanthemum is a unique, bespoke masterwork created in dialogue with a specific artwork.

Paste-Ons

Flowers were not only an ideological refuge for Andreeva, but a practical means of navigating Soviet censorship. She famously carried a bag of paper cut-outs of flowers with her at all times, ready to glue them onto geometric works deemed anti-Soviet by the Soviet Artist Committee.

A numbered, limited edition of 100 Floral Paste-On Earrings, Brooches, and Cufflinks immortalises these flowers in gold and diamonds, allowing wearers to adorn both body and textile with Andreeva’s dynamic, boundary-pushing artistry.
